Whew, what a month November has been, right?! “Reflections from the Kitchen: A 31-Day Devotional Cookbook” is officially out, Own Your Peach has a fundraiser coming up on December 8th, and on the same day, we will have our 1st Annual Board Retreat!!
Now, you may be wondering, “what is a board retreat?” Well, our retreat will consist first, of service and fundraising. Then, we will gather to celebrate the amazing things that took place during 2018, recognize some key individuals, and set the tone and expectations for 2019! Our theme this year is:
“Maximizing our Impact: Relationship-Building & Self-Care.”
This retreat will be attended by Own Your Peach board members, key volunteers and mentors, and mentees. It will also serve as an opportunity for relationship and team-building and empower everyone with the tools to utilize their unique skills and talents to further the mission and vision of Own Your Peach. Our goal is for everyone to recognize their own strengths so they can use them in a way that encourages them to see how much of an asset they are to the organization and community we serve.
In honor of this, today, I want to take a moment to highlight a very special guest that will join us for our retreat. This being our 1st Annual Retreat, we want to do something special! We will have Angela Frazier, MPH joining us as the keynote speaker!
Angela is a speaker, mental health advocate, educator and leader in the health field. Angela received her Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences and Communication from Portland State University. She also holds a Masters of Public Health in Community Health from The University of Texas Health Science Center. She was honored to represent her graduating class as the Student Commencement Speaker.
Since the loss of her mother in 2016 she has dedicated her time and efforts to sharing her story by bringing tough topics to the forefront of conversation. This began with the opening of a shelter for survivors of domestic violence in honor of her mother. The Tami Best Emergency Shelter was created for women and children fleeing abusive situations. Angela currently serves as a board member for the Ashley Jadine Foundation working to prevent suicide among teens. She is also a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. Hearing Angela reflect on her journey towards service and healing gives those who hear her a renewed and inspired sense of purpose, grounded in her shared resilience.
To say that Angela’s story is inspiring is an understatement. Her unique ability to move others through her resilience, determination, and sense of purpose make her highly sought after; and we are truly honored and looking forward to her joining us for our 1st Annual Board Retreat!
